Site policy and privacy notice
Using this site
This site runs one open course. By creating an account you agree to take part respectfully, follow the course's discussion etiquette and academic integrity policies (in the syllabus), and post only work you have the right to share. You must be 18 or older to create an account. Accounts used for spam, harassment, or impersonation are removed.
What we collect
Your name, email address, and the city and country you choose to enter; the work you submit, your posts, quiz attempts, and grades; and technical logs (pages visited, time, and IP address) that Moodle keeps for security and progress tracking.
Why we use it
Only to run the course: to enroll you, show your progress, grade and give feedback, issue the completion badge, and keep the site secure. Your information is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared outside the course, except where the law requires it.
Who can see it
Classmates see your name, profile picture if you add one, and your forum posts. Only the instructor sees your submissions, grades, and email address.
The example dashboard in Module 12
This course teaches learning analytics, and it shows one example built from its own data. In Module 12, a sample dashboard uses this course's completion data, anonymized and aggregated: counts and rates for the whole cohort, with no names or individual records. Nothing else from your activity is analyzed beyond what running the course needs.
Optional outside services
Most course tools run in your browser or on your own computer and send nothing anywhere. A few optional ones are services with their own terms and privacy policies:
- Google Colab (hosted Python notebooks, an alternative to JupyterLite). Needs a Google account; notebooks are stored in your Google Drive.
- Streamlit (dashboards in Python, Lab 4 code path). Runs locally; publishing to the free cloud is optional and needs an account.
None is required: every lab has a path with tools that need no account, graded with the same rubric. Nothing from this site is sent to these services; whatever you upload or type there is shared with them directly. Never upload real learner records from your workplace to a course tool or a generative AI service.
Where it is stored and for how long
On a server in the United States (Amazon Web Services, Ohio region), with nightly backups kept for seven days. Course data are kept for one year after your cohort ends, then deleted or anonymized. Logs are kept for one year.
Your choices
You can edit your profile at any time, download your data, or ask for your account to be deleted, from Profile → Data requests in the site. You can also contact the instructor through Contact site support at the bottom of any page.
Accessibility
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA. Every lecture has a full transcript, and lecture videos have captions as they are released; Moodle's pages are built for keyboard and screen-reader use; and every lab has a path that works with a keyboard and a screen reader. If anything blocks you, use Contact site support and you will be offered an alternative format or activity, usually within two business days.
Known limitations. Some interactive explorers and outside tools may not work fully with every screen reader; each lab has an alternative path with the same rubric. Tell us if something else gets in your way.
Research
This course teaches learning analytics, but it does not use learners' data for research. If that ever changes, you will be asked for your consent separately, and saying no will not affect your grade.
